Major diseases and Management : a) Powdery mildew
Management:
1. Crop rotation and clean cultivation.
2. Spray Thiovit @ 2.0 g/liter water at an interval of 7 days till control.
b) Downy mildew
Management:
1. Seed treatment with Vitavax 200 @ 2 g/kg seed.
2. Crop rotation and clean cultivation.
3. Spray Ridomil @ 2 g/liter water at an interval of 7 days till control.
c) Anthracnose
Management:
1. Seed treatment with Vitavax 200 @ 2 g/kg seed.
2. Crop rotation and clean cultivation.
3. Spraying with Tilt @ 2 g/liter water at an interval of 7 days.
d) Mosaic virus
Management:
1. Infected plants should be removed and destroy
2. Use of disease free seed.
3. Spray Marathion @ 2 ml and Chess @ 1 ml/liter water for aphid control at 7 days interval and 15 days interval respectively.
e) Fusarium wilt
Management:
1. Grafting 12 days seedlings with 15 days Bottle gourd or Pumpkin seedlings.
2. Can be controlled raising soil temperature up to 32-330C using plastic mulch.
3. Can be checked to some extent by dranching with Captan @ 2 g/liter water.
4. Seed treatment with Vitavax 200 @ 2 g/1 kg seed or Use of resistant varieties.
Major insect/pest and Management : a) Red pumpkin beetle
Management:
1. Covering seedlings with mosquito net for 30-35 days.
2. Spraying with Savin @ 2 g/liter water at 6-7 days interval till control
3. Killing of adults by catching with hand or sweeping net
4. Carbaryl (Sevin/Carbin/Aerovin) 85 WP or Mipsin 75 WP @ 2g/liter of water can be sprayed in case of severe infestation.
b) Fruit fly
Management:
1. Use of bait traps with synthetic pheromone and MSG.
2. Clean cultivation.
3. Bagging of fruits just after fruit set for 10-15 days.
c) Mite
Management:
1. Spraying with Neoron/Tork/Omyties etc. @ 1 ml/liter water at 15 days interval till control.
2. Spraying of Neem oil @ 5 ml/L of water + 5 ml trix at 7 days interval.
d) Leaf minor
Management:
1. Spraying with Cymbush/Pyriphos @ 2 ml/liter water at 10 days interval till control.
e) Epilachna beetle
Management:
1. Collection and destruction of eggs mass, larvae, pupae and also adults at the initial stage of infestation is the best and very effective means for the management of epilachna beetle.
2. Red bug and pentatomid bug is the predators of the larvae of epilachna beetle. Although their predatory rate is not very good but if they can be conserved would be helpful to kill the larvae of epilachna beetle.
3. If less than 20% leaves of the infested plants are damaged, no insecticidal spray is necessary. In cse of severe infestation, Diozinon 60 EC or Sumithion or Folithion 50 EC or Malathion 57 EC @ 2ml/liter water could be spray 2 times at an interval of 10 days.
