Major diseases and Management : a) Root witting
Management:
1. Seed treatment with Vitavax 200 @ 2 g/1 kg seed
2. Clean and well drained land
b) Leaf spot
Management:
1. Judicious fertilizer application and timely irrigation.
2. Crop rotation.
3. Spraying of recommended fungicide (Rovaral @ 20 g with 10 liter of water) at an interval of 10-12 days.
Major insect/pest and Management : a) Diamond back moth
Management:
1. Remove and destroy all the remnants stubbles, debris etc after harvest of crop and plough the field.
2. Spraying with 0.05% Malathion/Cypermethrin/Fenvalerate/Permethrin have been found effective.
3. Bacillus thuringiesis Berliver has been reported to give Complete check of this pest.
b) Prodenia Caterpillar
Management:
1. When the population of the insect is low, collect the egg masses and caterpillars, especially when they are feeding gregariously in the earlier stage by picking and destroy them.
2. Incase of serious infestation spray- Dipterex 50 EC @ 1.0 ml/L of water or Spraying Dizinion 50 EC @ 1.5 ml/L of water or Sevin 85SP @ 2 g/L of water.
c) Aphids
Management:
1. To check the aphid damage, cut and destroy promptly all the infested leaves along with colonies of aphids the early stage of attack.
2. Conservation of natural enemies especially different ladybird beetles.
3. When the aphid population goes beyond the economic threshold level (> 50 ml/L of water or Limithion at the rate of 2.0 ml/ liter of water at an interval of 15 days.
4. Spraying of Sumithion 50 EC or Malathion 5>EC @ 1 ml per liter of water.
d) Cabbage butterfly
Management:
1. To check the damage, cut and destroy promptly all the infested leaves along with caterpillars and pupae at the early stage of attack.
2. 2-3 spraying should be done with Sumithion @ 1.0 ml/L of water or Limithion at the rate of 2.0 ml/liter of water at an interval of 10 days.
